The Krúdy Days were recently held at the Siófok SzC Krúdy Gyula Technical School and Gymnasium, where we, INCON-LOGISTIC Ltd., were invited to give a presentation. We were thrilled to accept the opportunity!
Our presentation included students from the 10th and 11th grades as well as the 12th and 13th grades. During our talk, they learned about the day-to-day lives of logisticians and we summarized the adventures and challenges they might encounter in the profession. We also discussed what they need to pay attention to in order to succeed. Following the theoretical part and sharing our experiences, we addressed a current “problem”: the job market. We examined employers’ opinions on Generation Z and then, as part of a group activity, we listened to the students’ expectations regarding the job market.
At the two presentations, a total of 8 groups participated, with 4 groups presenting their needs at each event. Analyzing the responses, the importance of flexibility stood out, as students emphasized the comfort provided by flexible working hours and locations, such as the option for Home Office. Additionally, many mentioned the significance of a positive work environment and helpful colleagues, which contribute to effective collaboration and a stress-free work experience.
Competitive pay was also a recurring theme, as students expect benefits that align with inflation, as well as other perks (like company cars and phones) to adequately support their quality of life. Often mentioned was the need for funding for educational opportunities (such as schooling and training), which is essential for their professional development.
Furthermore, students highlighted the importance of teamwork, problem-solving skills, and creativity, all of which they wish to actively contribute to in their work processes. They also emphasized the need for precise communication, as it is crucial for effective collaboration.
As many other surveys have already shown, we have also found that the job market expectations of Generation Z are quite similar. Generation Z, as the future workforce, is seeking a supportive, growth-oriented, and flexible work environment, which is crucial not only for their careers but also for their personal satisfaction. Considering these responses, employers may want to rethink their compensation systems to become more attractive to young employees.
In our presentation, we paid special attention to the Japanese concept of IKIGAI, which focuses on finding the purpose and meaning of our lives. The term IKIGAI translates to “the reason to get up in the morning” and is based on the combination of four fundamental components: what we love, what we are good at, what the world needs, and what we can be paid for. This approach helps us maintain a balance between our personal and professional lives and find a path that provides both satisfaction and performance. IKIGAI plays an important role in achieving happiness and offers inspiring possibilities in terms of work and success. We believe it is crucial for Generation Z to understand and embrace this mindset to navigate their daily lives smoothly and enjoyably.
Although this was not our first time presenting at the Siófok SzC Krúdy Gyula Technical School and Gymnasium, we approached the challenge fully prepared once again! We hope the topics were useful for the students and that they will be able to apply what they learned from us in the future. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at info@incon-logistic.hu! INCON welcomes all interested individuals!
After our last session, we were contacted by two students who interned with us in the summer of 2024! If you’re curious about the experiences they had and the knowledge they gained, be sure to read the interview we conducted with them!
