MAN will no longer manufacture diesel engines, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the history of logistics.
MAN has announced that its Nuremberg plant will produce the company’s latest-generation diesel engine for the last time. This milestone highlights the major shift taking place in the industry, where electric drivetrains and sustainable solutions are taking center stage. The company is investing a total of €250 million in technological development across two of its German sites.
At INCON, we closely follow industry trends and firmly believe that green logistics is not just an opportunity — it’s a responsibility. We keep our partners informed about the most important developments because we believe the future is something we shape together!
An era comes to an end with the D30.
The last D30 diesel engine produced is actually one of the most advanced internal combustion engines. It is primarily used in the 40-ton MAN TGX and TGS tractor units, offering 5% lower fuel consumption and more than 50% efficiency—resulting in a significant reduction in CO₂ emissions. Meanwhile, battery production will begin at the Nuremberg plant within months, meaning diesel engines will continue to play a role in ensuring a smooth transition period.
Electric drivetrains – the key to sustainable logistics?
Electric trucks are becoming increasingly popular, especially among companies seeking long-term sustainable and cost-efficient solutions. Zero carbon emissions are now technically achievable, but electric trucks currently cost 30–50% more than their diesel counterparts.
However, this price difference can pay off during operation — thanks to lower maintenance needs, more favorable energy costs, and significant environmental benefits.
It's not just about the battery – alternative fuels in logistics.
Although electromobility is in the spotlight, let’s not forget about renewable fuels! Biodiesel, bioethanol, and hydrogen are playing an increasingly important role in sustainable transportation. These fuels not only reduce CO₂ emissions but also help decrease dependency on fossil fuels.
Why are renewable fuels a good choice?
Environmental benefits: Reduces carbon footprint
Energy security: Less dependence on external energy suppliers
Economic advantages: Local production → local jobs
Innovation: Encourages technological progress
Corporate image: Green solutions enhance reliability and competitiveness
What does green logistics mean – and why is INCON the right partner for it?
Green logistics is not just a new trend, but fundamentally changes the approach to logistics processes. The goal is to minimize environmental impact across the entire supply chain, from procurement to transportation, warehousing, and final delivery. This approach combines sustainability with economic rationality: not only does it protect the planet, but it can also lead to long-term cost savings.
In the realm of green logistics, solutions such as the following are being prioritized:
Use of low-emission or electric vehicles
Energy-efficient warehousing technologies
Optimized route planning to reduce unnecessary empty miles
Use of recyclable or minimal packaging materials
Monitoring and improving environmental KPIs (e.g., carbon footprint)
Sustainable operations not only reduce a company’s ecological footprint but also contribute to positive brand building. Consumers and business partners are increasingly seeking providers who not only talk about environmental protection but also take real steps toward it.
At INCON, we believe that green logistics is the future, and we are proactively shaping this future. We are constantly developing and using digital solutions to make transportation processes more efficient and sustainable. All of this is done while continuing to provide our clients with fast, accurate, and cost-effective service.
If you believe in a logistics partner who views environmental protection not as a task to check off, but as an opportunity, choose INCON – and let’s build a greener future together!
